Welcome to the Official Website of J.H.Y Katima, Full Professor of Chemical Processing Engineering at the University of Dar es Salaam, Past Principal of the College of Engineering and Technology and Board Chairman of Consumer Consultative Council forÂ Energy and Water Utility Regulatory Authority of the United Republic of Tanzania (EWURA CCC).
Over the years his research, training and consultancy interests have focused Chemicals Safety, Climate Change and Environmental Management. Prof. Katima is a registered expert with the Scientific and Technical Advisory Panel (STAP) of the Global Environmental Facility (GEF) and on different occasions he has served as a Registered UNFCC Expert â CDM Methodologies; Lead Author of Chapter 4 of the IPCC Third Assessment Report; Bureau Member of the IPCC â Task Force Bureau for the GHG Inventories; Vice President of the Intergovernmental Forum on Chemical Safety (IFCS); Review Editor of Chapter 5 on Cross Cutting Issues for the Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry inventory guidelines (GL2000); Review Editor of Volume 3 of the GL2006 (Industrial Processes and Products); Team Leader of the Preparation of National Profile for the Management of Chemicals in Tanzania and Team Leader of the Dioxin Working Group â for the Preparation of National Implementation Plan for the implementation of Stockholm Convention.
Prof. Katima has also been a Principal Investigator of the following projects Policy Innovation Systems for Clean Energy Security (PISCES) a DfID sponsored 5 year project; Peri-urban Mangrove Forests as Filters and Potential phytoremediators of domestic sewage in east Africa EU sponsored 3 years project (completed). He also a researcher in the Alternative Energy for Sustainable Development, Environmental Protection and Poverty Reduction in Tanzania (ESEPRIT) a three year project sponsored by NUFU.
